The Hour of Code is back and better than ever! Last year 15 million students around the globe participated in The Hour of Code - This year, they are expecting the number to reach 100 million! We want all of the students at PALCS to again be a part of this exciting experience during Computer Science Education week - December 8th - 12th. You understand more than most people how important computers are to the world! You are a Cyber School Student! You use many coded computer programs each day to complete your school work. Coding can be done by students from Kindergarten through Senior Year here at PALCS - and maybe even some of the Home Facilitators would like to give it a try!
There are multiple levels and multiple programs to choose from. Each of the coding tutorials will include a video clip or specific instructions to guide you through the hour of coding puzzles. All tutorials are self-guided and allow you to work at your own pace. Please keep these suggestions in mind:
- Elementary Students and those with no coding experience should choose from the "Tutorials for Beginners"
- Consider starting with either the Angry Birds, Tynker, or Lightbot choices
- Students in 3rd grade and above may want to code with Anna and Elsa from Frozen! You will create snowflakes and patterns!
- Students who completed the hour of code last year or who have some coding experience and are looking for a challenge may want to consider Tutorials that teach Javascript or Tutorial apps for phones and tablets
Any time during this week you should click on the Code Symbol below and spend at least one hour working on one of the tutorials. If you have questions or need help, you may contact Mrs. Babs Gross, the Middle School Technology teacher - send a Moodle Message or PALCSmail to [email protected] (I will return messages each evening). Once you have finished your Hour of Code, please go to the front page of Moodle and complete the quick survey about your experience.
Happy Coding!! Who knows - you might just find out what you want to do when you grow up!
